Rule of twenty20 cricket
Uncategorized September 9th, 2007The first Twenty20 world cup is starting on 11th September in South Africa. I think pretty strange, there were not more than 15 international twenty20 games yet played and they’re going for world cup. I read the rules for twenty 20 cricket in a newspaper. Some of them are weired, interesting and some of them are disgusting. The basic rules are same as previous ODI matches. Here are the new or extra rules of twenty20 cricket.
Rule 1: Only 20 overs will be played in each inning and bowlers will have to finish all 20 overs with in 75 minutes. The other party will get extra 6 runs if the bowler party did not finish all 20 overs in 75 minutes.
Rule 2: If a ball is called no-ball because of overstepping, the next ball shall be a Free Hit. That means the player will not be out for that bowl by any of the regular cricket rules apart from being run out. This is interesting, isn’t it?
Rule 3: Umpires can give five runs to a team playing if he feels another party is needlessly wasting too many time.
Rule 4: A bowlers can bowl maximum of 4 over in a innings. This indicates something like the game is pretty much dedicated to the Batsmans only.
Rule 5: Only 5 fielders can be placed on the leg side to field at any point of time. And two fielders can be placed outside the ring in the first 6 overs and not more than 5 fielders can be placed outside the ring for other 14 overs.
Rule 6: One more rule for a game which is in a tie. introduces the novelty of a bowl-out to decide the result of the game. Its something like the game which ends in penalty. Five players from the each side will bowl two times each with no batsman in crease. This rule states that the maximum times the wicket is castled by either team decides the outcome of the Twenty 20 match. This is the most interesting rule I think of the twenty20 cricket match.
